State-wide planning permit application fee hikes
27 September 2016
A new suite of planning and subdivision application fees will be adopted across Victoria which are set hit the hip-pockets of permit applicants.
In a media release on 27 September 2016 the State Government advised the new fees are set to apply immediately starting 13 October 2016. Most fees will apply on lodgement of a planning or subdivision application at Council.
The new fees come as a result of Planning Minister, Richard Wynn’s 2015 review into planning fees. They are a significant increase on existing application fees with the clear intention that more revenue is contributed by developers as opposed to ratepayers.
To give a snapshot of the new fees, we provide you with a summary of the fee changes for common application types below:
This new fee structure along with the introduction of the Metropolitan Planning Levy (MPL) in July 2015 means that the planning permit application process is now significantly costlier.
It would be wonderful if the money generated from these fees were used to better resource the planning system for more timely decision making.
