Bayside Amendment C140 abandoned after issue of Planning Panel report

The proposed Amendment C140 which sought to introduce a number of onerous planning requirements for residential development within Bayside has been abandoned by Council after a damning report from Planning Panels Victoria recommending that it be scrapped.

The report by Planning Panels Victoria on 11 May 2016 outlined the reasons for the recommendation to reject the Amendment including lack of strategic justification and failing to adequately provide for projected future housing growth.

At the 26 July 2016 Council Meeting, Council resolved to abandon Amendment C140 in its current form as recommended by the Panel. It was noted at the Council Meeting that the abandonment of the Amendment will provide Council the opportunity to undertake further strategic work which may support a future amendment.

The Panel outlined that the proposed Amendment was simply a blanket restriction on development and required the Council to demonstrate a more thoughtful and targeted approach to managing housing growth.

We are pleased with Council’s decision to abandon the proposal as approval would have added another raft of stringent controls which in many cases would have further limited reasonable development outcomes.
